I have done some recent bookings with VA and have noticed that they have increased there Business (J) class fares to the same cost as QF Business.
Has any one else noticed the increases?

Yep I sure have and for that reason haved moved my domestic business travel back to Qantas. Seperate Buisness Lounge, A330 aircraft between Mel/Syd are my big 2 things. I have enjoyed the last 2 years at Virgin but Im getting way more bang for my buck back at Qantas.

Trans Au, QF is asking $1900 for J, PER to the east coast, but VA is asking $1999.

Albeit at the moment on VA you are guaranteed a refurb plane (subject to a 737 sub) whereas with QF its a lottery.

Yup. Before VA had the upper hand in terms of price. Last year I noticed most flights became within $50 to 100 of QF, but these days they match or are even more expensive than QF.

It's a time warp. Back 50 years, to TAA vs Ansett. No competition, cosy duopoly. We have a much bigger market today. Wish we could get a third full service carrier on domestic.

By saying that you are classifying Virgin as a full service carrier. Still a budget airline posing as one really, flew CNS-BNE yesterday entertainment system down again, not that I really cared flying economy but if I'd have paid the business fare and not had IFE I wouldn't have been happy.

Sadly, coming to the same conclusion myself. I've been a big VA advocate for a few years now and you can't beat them on service I feel. I thought if they nailed the very poor included food offerings they currently pass off as "catering" onboard then they'd have a good shot at becoming a true full service airline and taking it up the big boys but there is more to it sadly - for one, I am learning this whole virtual alliance thing for international travel is just spin - functionally, it is just too difficult to weave your way through it

Well said, the food is really the biggest let down it's atrocious, I'm yet to eat anything on board, paid or free, economy or business that tastes any good. Luke Mangan needs to spend less time getting his photo taken and more time coming up with a decent menu. And as you said the virtual alliance really is showing its weaknesses, for a while I was happy to burn points on singapore airlines but outside of that the virtual alliance/network is pathetic.

Those new suites aint gonna pay for themselves! As stated in the comments above, they seem to be making hay while the sun shines with the full fleet of "the business."
If I were paying $1900 return for a coast to coast service, $50 to assure I'm flying in the business is small fry.

If you have any isues on Qantas always pays to let them know, last time my sound was not working they gave me 5000 extra FF points. But yes Qantas badly need to finish their refurbs
