I have a colleague whose CX marco polo club account is coming up for renewal at the end of October. She is currently on silver at around the 25k mile mark and is scheduled to do a return flight to London next month so she'll more than clear the line to renew her SL status.

However, here's the tricky bit: she's not sure how much flying she'll do next year (yet), so she'll obviously want to roll over as much of the mileage beyond the 5k miles she needs to renew her SL status into the next membership year (ie 1 Nov 2012-31 October 2013).

... And here's the cheeky bit:

I know that there used to be a trick which CX ff'ers could do whereby they could, immediately prior to departure (ie after getting into the lounge), ask lounge staffers to remove their FFP number from the flight manifest. This way, when the club's computers did a sweep post-flight, mileage wouldn't accrue to a member's account. After that, the member would then lodge a missing mileage claim in the new membership year. Given CX generally counts mileage for the purposes of calculating your tier status on the date that it is credited, members could thus 'rollover' any mileage in excess of what was needed to renew in a membership year, and the 'excess' would then be credited towards the next year. So the short end of this is: does anybody know if this still works and, if so, would it be viable if the return flight from London (which is the flight in question) was some 3 weeks before the end of October?

This doesn't work anymore (per FT CX forum), the miles will not count towards the following year's qualification.

Best option would be to fly up to 30k qualification then call CX and ask them to reset renewal early so that the rest of the miles count towards next years status.
