Have any Velocity Platinum members ever managed to use one of their free upgrades from a Saver fare. I know it's supposed to be from a Flexi fare, but was wondering if anyone had been shown any mercy for a flexi fare?

No - you won't have any luck there. I haven't managed to use them as all of my work travel is usually on the cheapest fare. it's a shame you can't, say, use 2 of the 4 passes to upgrade from a saver fare. I'd definifely do that!

Same with me. In 5 years time it happened to me once that I received a spontaneous upgrade to business. That was with Qantas. And that was not because of my charme as I looked very grumpy at that time ...

I called once to try to upgrade from the AMEX complimentary fare, which is more or less a saver fare, but they wouldn't let me so I did an upgrade bid instead. It still cost money but far less than the fare difference.
