Has anyone else noticed a huge drop (i.e. to basically nil) in velocity reward availability for SQ & EY flights recently. I've never had problems grabbing last minute velocity reward economy tickets to SIN or BKK with SQ for the usual 37,500 points and about $80 taxes one way. For almost the next 8 months all official "reward" tickets (SQ coded flights) are showing as 'sold out', with the Any Seat tickets the only ones available (VA coded flights, same flights as the SQ sold out ones just codeshared), usually for double the points and 4 times the taxes, you can get lucky with the points and grab one for the 37,500 but the taxes are still 4 times as much.

I have found the same thing, except I can't see any reward inventory on EY or SQ.

As far as award availability on SQ is concerned, you're far better off to transfer your Velocity Points to Krisflyer and then book the award. Admittedly the taxes are higher but there's more availability given that out of Sydney there are 4 flights a day compared to the 2 flights a day on Etihad.

The new charges being imposed by VFF for Etihad award flights are a rip-off too.

I've just grabbed a SYD-SIN-LHR one-way ticket in business class for this coming Tuesday. The availability was there, just have to overnite in Singapore for a few hours.

A tip for award availability on Etihad, check the Etihad website first and if it shows availability then you may be in with a chance for a VFF award tick.

I found the same, trying to book a one way from Madrid to Sydney and Paris to Sydney on the Velocity website - no  Reward seats in J. You can get any day tickets at a whopping 817 300 points.  This was looking 9 months ahead. I even tried London to Sydney, which should have moreflights, but no rewardseats. Maybe time to switch to Qantas who have a bit more felxibility

Gentleman. You need to start thinking outside the box. Qantas and Virgin are taking you for fools.

Was thinking the same, I was even prepared to fly Y if there was no J but zero availability there either.

Not sure if you are checking the website or calling the contact centre - I've found calling them and breaking down the legs of your journey results in availability that doesn't appear on their website.
