I will travel SYD to Moscow in May in business class.  It seems to me the best options are either SQ, EK or QR - who would you choose in business for this journey?  Thanks

Agree with the above. SQ now fly their A350 to Moscow which is a great all round product, aircraft included and it links up well with A380 services out of SYD from memory. QR are a solid bet and have good consistent hard product. Don't think you could go wrong with either of those :)

Which FF programme are you with? Are you planning to re-qualify for elite status? Sydney to Moscow in Buisness would seriously make a dent in your target - don't fritter the opportunity away!

I have flown to Moscow on QR. My flight was on an A320 and the business class seats were wide recliners from yesteryear. I think some QR A320s might have lay flat seats but I sure haven't been on any so I'm doubtful.

If you want a guarantee of proper flat seat then stick with SQ.
EK is also pot luck since not all the seats on their 777 are truely flat, some are angled.

Apart from the seat everything else is excellent. Great food, great service and so forth.
And to be fair, for a 5 hour flight the seat is fine.

I found the lounge in Doha excellent which was good because I had an 8 hour layover.
There are places where you can sleep and plenty of showers.
I also back up Patrick A340's comment that it can be busy at times in the lounge despite how vast it is.

And I also agree with Patrick A340 and say 'Have a good time' as well!

PS: Be sure to get your visa sorted, it is a bit of effort.

I would think Singapore Airlines offers the best chance of a highly consistent business class experience all the way through from Sydney to Singapore to Moscow, and would rate Qatar second after this.

With regards to the visa, yes this is vital to sort out soon. You need some 'endorsement' from somebody in Russia however there are many visa agencies which can help with this including many accommodation providers.

For something different, try JAL. We flew to Moscow with them last year. You get a free night in Narita on the way and the seats, food and lounges are very good, particularly if you are Qantas Platinum. The fares are lower than any other One World or Star Alliance airline as well.

Thanks, I'm platinum 1 with QF and only entry level with Star Alliance, so I'd earn miles on both and probably not make any difference to status that is valuable.

Thanks so much, I would give up a good lounge for a flat bed any day so will spend more time looking at the seat configuration on the best connections.  Thanks for the insight, appreciate it.

Not QF sale, QR (Qatar) sale. BTAUS is talking about this: http://www.qatarairways.com/sa/en/offers/travel-festival.page

For a bonus 10% saving I think you put in AUCKLAND as the promotion code.

Our airplane had a technical issue on the Moscow-Singapore (Airbus 350 SQ361 dep 3/01/17) leg on the journey to Australia. Passengers were kept inside of the airplane for 6 hours  while the airplane was remaining on the ground in Moscow airport.
SQ did not arrange return of passengers back to the terminal. No hot meal was served onboard, only a pack of chips within 6 hours.  Crew provided little and infrequent information. Some passengers panicked and disembarked.
We missed our connecting flight to Sydney and had to spend an extra 9 hours waiting for the next flight. As a result of the delay I was had to go to work straight from the airport after 38 hours of the prolonged joureney.
The airline asked me to write a detailed letter describing what happend. I spent my time and did that. In return I received a standard email with apologies, nothing else to compensate for the worst flight I had so far.
