Is the new qf J lounge a better bet or the BA F lounge? Last time I flew the BA lounge was the only option, the restaurant was good but the lounge mediocre.

The QF lounge isn't open yet. You can access BA, AA or CX but they tend to direct you to one of the first two. There's an article on this site about it. I favour CX personally.

Right now, the best London Heathrow lounges for any eligible Qantas travellers (first class, business class, Platinum or Gold) would be the new Cathay Pacific lounges. The main lounge is business class/Gold, with a smaller secondary lounge for first class/Platinum. They beat the BA lounges by a very long mile.

The new Qantas London Lounge is currently due to open in March, so we'll see how it compares to the Cathay lounges – but my expectation is that the Cathay Pacific first class lounge will be the T3 champ, and the Cathay Pacific business class lounge will be a tough challenger to best.

If it's on schedule, yes.

I've recently come back from London and agree that the CX lounges are the ones to visit. If you've been to The Pier lounges in Hong Kong you can consider the new Heathrow lounges as small-scale versions of these, of course without the high end features like the day suites, foot spa, tea room, relaxation room etc. But in the CX Heathrow first class lounge there's a dining room with a la carte menu which the Qantas lounge won't have, and in the CX Heathrow business class lounge there's a really great buffet spread and of course the noodle bar, and I reckon QF will have trouble matching that.

Don't forget, if you're flying out of London in Qantas first class, you can also access the Emirates Lounge if you wish.

(In London, the Emirates lounge can only be accessed by Qantas first class flyers and Chairmans Lounge members travelling on Qantas - it's not open to business class flyers or other frequent flyer tiers, unless flying on an Emirates aircraft: an exception to the usual Qantas+Emirates lounge rules.)

I mostly use the BA one and find it quite acceptable but the dining has gone down since BA stopped doing long haul from there. The CX is very nice. I don't bother with AA. Hate the EK one at LHR, awful in my view.
