I flew CX recently from HKG to Brisbane. They were good. But the service is very "privacy-preserving"... most of their customers are business travellers who prefer to be left alone. So the idea is that if you need help, use the call button and then they come running.

They aren't the most proactively friendly and the food can be hit-or-miss, but they are competent, efficient and professional. And the new "Pier" lounge at HKG is awesome. The seats are quite good too... a little tight around the shoulders but that's the only real problem.

I found their in-flight service to be fine but it's their ground service if there are issues eg: delays, missed connections and the like that I find poor and disappointing.

Flew with CX in J  Three times in the past two weeks
They can lack the friendliness of say QF but that's a cultural thing to be fair
They don't miss a beat when it comes to being sharp on service
I was returning from the WC and asked for another cup of tea, the Attendant said
Earl Grey sir ?
That was correct
They even open the WC door for passengers, that's something new
I found the older more experienced Staff tendered to be more chatty and laid back than the younger ones

Flew HKG-SYD recently, having transited from a LHR-HKG flight on BA.

CX were fantastic. Very good - equivalent to good SQ service.

No hesitation flying them again.

i took 3 flights with CX  last month  in J and no complaints re food or service. Their amenity kits are better than QF
The service is functional and efficient , you don't get  the same antipodean  friendliness that you encounter  with Qantas or Air NZ crews  but I think its a cultural thing
I would fly with them again

have flown CX BKK<-> HKG in J several times recently. Experience depends upon the equipment and layout. Older planes with the conventional (almost PE spec) seats are bad by 2017 standards. The newer planes with the diagonal seats are better BUT there is no armrest on the entry side so I was constantly feeling like falling.

Neither plane has any air vents (seems to be a CX thing) and the meals where really ordinary.

Lounges at HKG are also pretty uninspiring. The business next to Gate 4 feels like QF domestic whilst the first class is better. The one near Gate 50 is between the two whilst near Gate 30 is dingy.

I assume you didn't press the small grey button that raises the armrest on the aisle side...

And considering CX won Skytrax's 2016 Best First Class Lounge of the Year, and came 2nd place in the Best Business Class Lounge, I'm just assuming that you've visited all the poorer lounges in HKG. Next time, try visiting The Pier (First or Business) by Gates 64.

Had consistently good service with CX long haul to Europe. Attentive responsive staff.  Good variety/choice of meals offered. My choice of carrier for the last 2 years

Just finished a series of flights with CX Business Class PER- HKG-YVR and return.

Fabulous service all round , one of the best yet only eclipsed by SQ but only just. The CX A350 was quite fantastic, one of the most comfortable aircraft I have travelled on . SQ's A380 is a little better but I was very impressed by the A350. Very happy travellers.
