Occasionally the airline operator flight numbers are easy to understand; SA=South African; AI= Air India; LH=Lufthansa yet some are curious.  AY=Finnair; LX=Swiss etc.   Most are historical TE=Air New Zealand (TEAL);.    We are all aware of QF = Qantas  BUT  what were the 2 letters for Qantas that preceded QF ...?     (I guess not even Alan Joyce knows the answer..)

EM, before my time! Qantas Empire Airways    Congratulations Greg.   I was a travel agent back in those days, hand writing tickets.   No charges if the passenger changed a flight of date,  we just stayed back at the office writing them all over again.
