I have booked a flight on VA89 from Melbourne to Hong Kong on 28 October 2017 in The Business with my wife. When calling up to allocate my seats, the Platinum guest services person told me that I couldn't select the middle two seats because the seat map on their screen was not in the same configuration as other A330 services (i.e. 1-2-1). I called up another Platinum guest services team member today and they said the same thing, and they confirmed with their manager. I noted that all the A330s have been upgraded to The Business, but I was informed that they didn't quite know why the seat map was different for seat allocations. Does anyone know if VA are wet leasing aircraft from HNA which may explain the different seat map and the fact that we can't be seated in the middle.

After looking at it in Expertflyer, it's 5 rows of seats A, D, G and K.on an Airbus A330.

So it seems like the same cabin as 'the business'.

However the position of the seats appears to be 2-2 instead of 1-2-1. I feel this is a technical issue rather than a different aircraft. Maybe asked for the D/G seats specifically?

Seat Guru is showing the config as 2-2 (A,D - G,K). The normal seatmap loaded is shown as 1-2-1 (A-DG-K).

Seems like there has been a config issue when the flight was loaded. If you ask them to allocate the D and G seats to you in the same row you will be paired together.

Just wondering what the outcome was for you. I have just struck the same issue with a 2+2 config offered despite seat guru and the VA site itself showing the new 1-2-1 setup. They have only offered us A/D whereas I thing the right option is D/G
