Has anyone enquired for Virgin Atlantic award availability via the Virgin Australia call centre and been told there isn't space, even though Virgin Atlantic say there is and Delta's website also confirms the availability? Struggling to understand why they couldn't see the availability and also why when searching for non-reward availability on the VA site, no VS options are presented - seems very strange to me?!?

VA have been very slow implementing the VS codeshares via HKG and LAX. VS have had them online with much more accessibility for some time. In terms of reward space, the issue was perhaps with the representative you spoke to? I've never had trouble finding space, might be worth a call back.

I've been calling back for 3 days now and each time I get the same person, who gives me the same answer - no space. So frustrating!

We recently booked 2 J tickets on VS.

ExpertFlyer showed plenty of seats available, but each time we called they kept saying there was nothing.
We had to try a few times and many of the agents don’t know what they’re doing.
Eventually had success!!

Hi Richrrd - I've booked VS Upper Class using Velocity points 3 separate times in the past year so understand the process. Agree its difficult and frustrating!

The answer seems to simply be that some agents know how to look for it and others don't. The way to tell if the agent knows what they are doing is if they ask for the passengers full name before putting you on hold to search. If they do they are doing it correctly, if they don't they are not so just hang up and call again.

Each time it took about 5 calls but they were able to eventually ticket is correctly. Some agents will incorrectly try and charge you a fuel surcharge (so quote fees and taxes of $500+ per person). If this happens politely tell them velocity does not charge fuel surcharges on VS redemptions and ask for a supervisor to recalculate the fees and taxes.

Keep trying at different times of the day/week and you should eventually get there. I find their award space actually hangs around for a while because they are not part of a global alliance so there's less members of other programs competing with you for the seats.

I tried again today and managed to get someone who knew what they were doing - his name is MJ - he asked my full name and put me on hold as advised by the post ^
