My first year as VA Platnium.

Do status credits start counting towards the next renewal date after you reach the 800.

I.e if you achieve platinum on in July 2018. Then if you clock 800 status credits by May 2019, would your flight in June contribute to your July 2020 renewal.

Wondering whether or not to start putting Sing Air flights on KrisFlyer once it's been achieved.

Short answer from my experience is yes.

Once you reach platinum first time, that is the date from which you need to generate your next 800. In subsequent years, this is not the case - additional credits add up to things like partner status.

I don't think so - once you've reached the 800 SC in a requalifying year, your tally says 'Achieved' and extra SC you earn won't go towards the year after until after you reach the review period (the annual date when you first qualified).

However grumpyoldman is correct in saying excess SC within this year can go to partner status - 1300 SC within the same requalification year will get you Partner Gold and 1800 SC will get your Partner Platinum.

If you're not aiming for partner status, then it's a plausible idea to redirect your credits to a different program (or use Family Pooling to an eligible member) once you've hit your 800 SC and 8 eligible sectors.

Yep - there is a fundamental difference between the first qualification and subsequent years when you requalify.

Thanks!

For the 4 upgrades per year with the freedom fare is it possible to know if a flight will have upgrade availability before calling them to upgrade it. Although I guess since it's fully flexible it doesn't matter if you need to change.
Just wondering if they help you to find the flights with upgrade availability when you call.

It's simple - any domestic or short international flight with Business Reward availability can be upgraded from Freedom fare using your 4x complimentary upgrades.

Also around 48 hrs before the flight, if there's no Business Reward availability, the Platinum team may still be able to release a seat for you assuming some revenue seats are still unsold. They've done that for me on a Melbourne-Perth journey before.

OK great thanks looking to use them on the longer East to West Sydney Perth legs in the business.

I also do a search for reward seats before buying a flexi fare then calling straight away to get the upgrade. That's the easiest way I've found rather than asking and waiting on the phone for them to search.

be warned, some VA 'flexi' fares still come with extra charges if you need to cancel or change. Especially international codeshared flights.

But yes, call the Platinum number before booking they're always helpful.

I thought it was 1500 SC to get complimentary gold. Is it really 1300?

Yes, you earn Partner Gold with 500 SC above your 800 SC re-qualification threshold = 1300 SC

Short answer to the OP - no. SC credits don’t roll over from year to year for the purpose of renewing at the same level
