SYD-CNS via BNE return in flexible economy is worth looking at as it get you 100 status credits (so 200 status credits total if booked and flown in accordance with the promo) for around $750-$800.
You could go to SIN via another East Coast port for a weekender, as that would net you 70 SCs (140 on DSCs) for about the same money as a domestic status run, and gives you the opportunity to kick back with some chilli crab. It's even better if you already have some (say 20 SCs' worth) travel booked in, as a straight MEL-SIN return for the Melbourne Cup long weekend in November is currently going for A$813.
I am based in BNE - and of my usual destinations I would travel to normally, BNE-MEL-BNE in business class would cost approx $1300 (March - it's possibly cheaper in other months) and return a total of 240 status credits. This equates to $5.42 per status credit which is very good in my opinion!
I've also compared to SYD (approx $1760 for 160 SC's - which is $11/SC), MKY ($10/SC) and CHC (6.53/SC). All these were in business class for max SC return.
A long weekend trip to NZ could be a good option. Usually a return (via SYD) would cost about $800ish in Economy saver and gives you 35sc each way, thats a total of 140sc counting in the DSC deal.
I probably sounds like a broken record but SYD-BNE-CNS one way in J, then the alternate in Flexible Y gets you 150 base SC’s for around $1400 (300 total at $4.66 per sc) But if you want a weekender it’s probably personal preference for the options listed above

I'm a medical professional who travels economy domestically and to Asia for leisure/conferences/courses, and longer in PE/J, and a comfortable longtime silver FF who is always a bit (~100) short of gold each year due to not travelling as much as corporate frequent flyers, however this year with this promotion and a holiday to Bali I'll be pushing close to platinum which is very exciting
Double Status Credit promotions (like the one that is on now) is very important to getting a status upgrade. In the end you have to spend money. I would do capital city to capital city in Australia (business) then onward overseas flight in business. It takes some energy but you can get those extra SC's cheaper. Or get a job that flies you between capital cities endlessly each year. PS forget travel agents. Do you own homework on Qantas website with their SC and points calculators.
