Recently upgrade to VA gold thanks for family pooling (I will never get gold if only flying economy in QF), and finally get chance to using point upgrade from economy class to business in VA international long haul. My flight schedule is SYD-HKG-HGH, and HGH-HKG-SYD, can I access Hong Kong Airline's lounge in HKG on the trip flying to HGH?
Another question is about VA's wait list. I hate RED-EYE flight, but most of asian flight back to Australia are during the night. So I use point to upgrade my freedom economy at HKG-SYD but in wait list. How long will VA confirm the upgrade success? During the time I will be in China, and my Australian phone number will be off, will VA contact me by email?

Thanks, my next connecting flight is operate by Hong Kong airline, hope they allowed me to get into their lounge. The Autun club looks nice!
A little trick, call them 3 to 7 days out.. You'll occasionally get a nice person who will upgrade you if there are more than a certain number of business seats available.. Although this has only worked for me domestically.. And I am platinum
Has anyone actually got upgraded to biz class on HKG flights? I flew few times with VA to HKG but always got end up in the waiting list. My flights were always full.
