I am a bit confused about the current state of LAX airport. Is it possible to get from Tom Bradley to Terminal 6 without needing to go outside of the security zone? Ideally, I would want to clear customs and go directly to the gate of my flight from Terminal 6 (carry on only, online checkin) and not have to worry about a TSA security queue. Is that possible?

No. All passengers arriving off an international flight clear customs/immigration and need to be rescreened by TSA prior to their next flight. There is no route back airside from the customs hall which does not involve rescreening.

Thanks for the information. That makes sense. I'm concerned with the government shutdown will make TSA worse than usual (I fly this week).

In my experience that time is when several flights arrive including QF's flights from Australia so I would judge the line and possibly go to Terminal 6.

If you have carry on only, I would exit TBIT and go straight to T6 and through security there, ignore the connecting flights line at TBIT etc and go straight to T6
