I'm considering the ibis business card which grants Accor Gold status. I've got a few stays coming up in properties in Australia and in New Zealand (Mercure Gold Coast resort, ibis Christchurch, Pullman Auckland, Sebel Brisbane). Wonder how the elite Gold status recognition stacks up in these properties, particularly the room upgrades and free drinks benefit? Is it worth it to invest ~$150 for Accor Gold?
From my experience, generally they're ok with room upgrades (although a lot of the rooms feel like they're the same anyway, perhaps with a better view/higher floor). Usually you get a free drink voucher that can be used at the hotel bar or restaurant when having a meal. Also a bottle (or two) of water in the room. Most of the time I get late check out upon request, except when they're very busy. Sometimes I get some small treats in the room too, e.g. chocolate, fruit plates, etc.
There is almost no benefit to the status for Ibis hotels, but it is reasonable for Mercure, Pullman and Sebel. You'll get a room upgrade if available, which is nice, and the single drink voucher will be house wine or beer, so the range is limited. I have Accor Platinum, had Gold before, but that was from staying at hotels. I'd argue paying for it is marginally useful.
I was Platinum and if you were staying in the premium hotels it was pretty good. I'm Gold now as I get it with my AMEX card. I get a free room per year so if you're paying and get the free room it pretty much pays for itself.
My experience with Gold now mirrors the comments from Jianga - late check out is really useful if you've got a later flight and want a base to work from during the check out day.
In ANZ pretty much 90% of my hotel biz is with Accor - I just wish they'd hurry up and integrate Mantra into their system...
Actually David, it would be good to get an update from Accor re this. They promote Mantra on their website but you can't book via Accor?

I spent half of all my business travel nights in Mantra but not receiving any stay/point/benefit as Accor silver since the acquirement. Eager to see how the new ALL-Accor program going to be.

I was gold and this year I’m silver. Didn’t notice the difference. Keep your money and buy your own drinks.
