Hi

Can anyone tell me how waitlisting works when miles are expiring?

Example:
Say 300k miles expire on March 31 and at the same time i am waitlisted for return business class saver fare late may.

Do my miles expire still on March 31 in this scenario?

Anything else to consider?

Thanks

Unfortunately waitlisting won't extend the expiry of your miles. SQ are pretty strict when it comes to things like this. If your waitlist came through after March 31, you wouldn't have any more miles to confirm the ticket.

If it's the first time they're expiring, you can extend them another six months for 1,200 miles or 12 USD per block of 10,000 miles. If you have KrisFlyer Elite Silver or Gold, then it's 12 months. In your case, you'd be looking at sacrificing 36,000 miles or paying US$360 (AU$506) to extend your balance of 300,000 miles.

Otherwise, your only options are to cash them out somehow - call up SQ and try to clear the waitlist before 31 March, redeem on a different confirmed ticket, transfer to Velocity or other partner, use them on the store etc.

And i suppose the 'extend' option is still better value than paying for an 'advantage' redemption?
