I am a QFF gold that just made Qantas Platinum that will last till Jan 2021.
I however have Qantas points flowing out of my ears. If I was to book all my flights with points for 2020, and earn 0 status credits, will I get a definite soft landing to gold for year of 2021?
You could pay for flights and use points to upgrade. At 100000 point for a long distance business upgrade on a saver fare another way to burn through a few points in comfort.

Highly risky plan - as P you are likely to get points seats but upgrades are far from guaranteed
As P you are also likely to get upgrades for mid week on non marque flights. My strike rate is very high even on Perth London on a Monday. DFW to Syd is 100% with about 3p.a.
