In another sign of continued recovery for the business travel market, Emirates has relaunched its regular A380 service from Dubai to New York's JFK Airport.
The 489-seat A380 was replaced by a smaller capacity Boeing 777 in June 2009 due to weak demand caused by the global financial crisis.
Emirates has also commenced of twice-daily flights from Dubai to Houston and Los Angeles, which combined with the NY service represent a boost in capacity on Emirates' US routes of almost 50%.
The airline plans to add a further four stateside destinations in coming years; possible choices include Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington.
Competing gulf state carrier Emirates currently makes 49 flights per week from Dubai to Los Angeles, San Franciso, New York and Houston, while Air France has continued its A380 run from Paris to the Big Apple since last year.
Meanwhile, as reported yesterday, Qantas is continuing the suspension of its A380 service to Los Angeles for a further 72 hours following the discovery of oil leaks on Rolls-Royce engines on three of its five superjumbos since an engine explosion on the daily QF32 service from Singapore last Thursday.
