MAS signs up Master of Wine to bolster in-flight offerings

Malaysia Airlines is strengthening its play for the premium travel market with the appointment of Dr Ron Georgiou, Master of Wine – yes, that's a proper title. Very proper... in fact the Australian-based Georgiou is one of only 299 Masters of Wine in the world, says MAS.

Through his firm The Wine Oracle Georgiou will serve as wine consultant to reshape and continually refresh the wines offered to MAS' first class and business class passengers.

"My guiding vision is to make wine a multi-sensory experience that moves beyond taste and aroma to one's heart, spirit and mind" says Georgiou (who according to his bio at The Wine Oracle also "continues to runs his successful dental practice in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales", where he can "enjoy both the world of dentistry and wine').

Malaysia Airlines is now serving a new selection of premium wine and champagne labels from France, Germany, Spain, Australia and Portugal as part of the airline's continued efforts to position itself as the preferred premium carrier of Asia.

The top-shelf wines are offered to First Class passengers on the London, Amsterdam and Sydney routes as well as Business Class customers on all the airline's international routes.

The roster for First Class includes Dom Pérignon 2002 champagne, Chateau Léoville Poyferré Grand Cru red Bordeaux and Frédéric Magnien Meursault white Burgundy, with the wines in both First and Business paired with each meal option.
