ANA locks in seasonal return of Perth-Tokyo flights
Direct flights to Tokyo are back on the map, and you can book them with Virgin Australia Velocity Points.
West Australians with their hearts set on a trip to Japan will soon be able to do it in a single hop, with All Nippon Airways restarting seasonal flights between Perth and Tokyo-Narita from October 14.
The Star Alliance member is relying on its workhorse Boeing 787 for the route, which will offer three flights per week – Monday, Thursday and Saturday – through to late March 2025.
The aircraft sports lie-flat business class seats – all with direct aisle access – ahead of a small premium economy cabin.
- flight NH881 is wheels up from Tokyo’s Narita Airport at 11:10am, arriving into Perth at 8:15pm
- flight NH882 leaves Perth at 9:55pm those same three days, touching down into Tokyo at 8:30am the following day
The return of non-stop ANA flights to Perth means West Australians will no longer have to transit via Sydney, though the double-daily connection to Tokyo-Haneda still remains an option.
What’s more, these flights can be booked with Virgin Australia Velocity frequent flyer points thanks to the Virgin-ANA partnership, at the following one-way rates for an award seat:
- 42,000 Velocity Points for economy
- 63,000 Velocity Points for premium economy
- 78,000 Velocity Points for business
If you’re flying on a paid ticket you can earn Velocity Points and Status Credits, while Velocity Gold and Platinum members also enjoy perks such as priority check-in, priority boarding and a higher luggage allowance – but not, for now, access to ANA lounges.

Excellent result for WA Velocity members when combines with return of SAA. The J fares on ANA @ 78000 points seem great value.

Surely a Perth to Tokyo passenger wouldn't transit through SYD? You'd just do PER to SIN or another Asian hub and then onto Japan?

The 787 is still decent but not a world class product anymore. ANA used to be brilliant (maybe around 2015) but with crowded lounges and an average seat it has fallen behind. Hoping that the new 777 comes to Sydney soon!
Lifemiles charges 40k miles for this route I believe and you can buy those miles for around 2c. Could be worth looking into before using up virgin points.
