Cathay Pacific reopens The Deck Hong Kong business lounge

Wasting no time following the full border reopening between Hong Kong and mainland China, Cathay Pacific has lifted the shutters on its business class lounge The Deck – almost three years to the day since the pre-flight hangout was closed for the pandemic.

It joins The Wing and The Pier at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1, which both rolled out the welcome mat to well-heeled travellers at the beginning of January.

The Deck is bathed in natural light, with ample seating options to suit your mood.

With the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge permanently closed, this is now the de facto destination for those flying business class on a Oneworld carrier or holding equivalent Oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status.

Located near Gate 6, The Deck is styled like a modern living room, with comfy settees and leather lounges, complemented by more casual seating on its namesake deck: a wide, L-shaped terrace affording panoramic views across the airport’s apron.

But really, the signature feature has to be its made-to-order Noodle Bar. Here, diners can order the likes of Sichuanese dan dan noodles, fragrant Singapore Laksa, and rich Taiwanese beef noodles...

...along with silky wonton noodles, petite dim sum and fluffy steamed buns – to enjoy while relaxing on the wrap-around balcony.

Complementing the noodble bar is a buffet station with a mix of hot or cold dishes, along with fresh pastries, cheeses and self-service drinks.

With seating for up to 180 passengers, a ‘relaxation zone’ featuring bespoke Solo chairs, as well as eight shower suites, the lounge is sure to help ease congestion at the airline’s other lounges.

The Deck’s reopening follows the full removal of daily quotas and testing requirements between Hong Kong and mainland China.

I will be flying in business class from Hong Kong to Dubai with Cathay in 2 months time. Out of all the lounge options, what would anyone care to recommend as the best to visit? Is lounge hopping an option in Hong Kong as I do in Singapore?

If you have OW emerald status, Cathay’s Pier and Wing First lounges are the “go to” lounges, if not, then Pier and Wing Business lounges are also excellent - check out the Noodle Bars in the business lounges
