How to earn Qantas status credits without flying

Qantas frequent flyers can pocket as many as 110 Status Credits over the next three months without taking a single flight, as Qantas rolls out an Earn Status Credits on the ground promotion.

It’s arguably the easiest way to shore up your current status, bridge the gap to that next tier – such as moving from Silver to Gold, or Gold to Platinum – and also move a few steps closer to Lifetime status.

However, these special Status Credits won’t be counted towards triggering a Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus or Platinum One Bonus, nor do they apply to completing the Qantas Tier Accelerator status match challenge.

From Qantas’ perspective, this all about leveraging those valuable Status Credits to drive business to other parts of the Qantas Points ecosystem, such as Qantas credit cards, Qantas Hotels, Qantas Holidays, Qantas Insurance, BP, Red Energy, Woolworths and Hoyts.

Grow your Status Credits tally with spending across eight categories.
Grow your Status Credits tally with spending across eight categories.

Here’s how it works.

First, register for the Earn Status Credits on the ground promotion by 31 October 2025.

Then, earn at least 1,000 Qantas Points across each of eight activity categories by 31 December 2025.

Each category comes with either 10 or 20 Status Credits as your prize, and those Status Credits will land in your account within six to eight weeks of hitting that 1,000 points threshold.

You’ll find each category detailed at the Earn Status Credits on the ground promotion page, but here’s a snap summary:

  • 20 Status Credits for activities in the Cards and Banking category, which includes Qantas Points-earning credit cards, Qantas Pay and Qantas Money Home Loans
  • 20 Status Credits for earning 1,000 points with insurance, such as Qantas Health Insurance, Qantas Travel Insurance, Qantas Car Insurance and Qantas Home Insurance
  • 20 Status Credits for earning 1,000 points with partners Red Energy and Solargain
  • 10 Status Credits for activity in hotels and travel, including Qantas Hotels, Qantas Holidays, Qantas Experiences, Qantas Tours, Qantas Cruises, TripADeal and more
  • 10 Status Credits for 1,000 points clocked up between BP, Avis, Budget, Uber and Qantas Valet
  • 10 Status Credits in the ‘Food & Wine’ category of Everyday Rewards, HelloFresh, YouFoodz and Qantas Wine
  • 10 Status Credits through shopping with Qantas Marketplace, Qantas Shopping and retail partners such as David Jones and Lotte Duty Free
  • 10 Status Credits if you also manage to earn 1,000 Qantas Points by 31 December with entertainment partners such as Hoyts, Kayo and Binge

Note that if you’re already spending in any of these, that spend will count towards the bonus Status Credits provided you register for this promotion.

How do we keep track of our progress in each category ? The Qantas website seems to be silent on this matter.

I don't understand what is meant by the following text:

'Don't forget, if you're currently earning points on the ground, they will still count towards unlocking Status Credits as long as you register for this offer. And the more categories you complete, the more Status Credits you’ll unlock - up to 110 in total.'

I took this to mean that if you earned points earlier in the year then they would count and my assumption was that the 1000 point earn would be any points earned in the 2025 calendar year. But then the FAQs clearly state that the points need to be earned between 1 Oct and 31 December. In my opinion, this is a poorly thought out promo by Qantas and the reason why is that it is extremely difficult to earn 1000 points in certain categories within the narrow promo date range. For example, if you already have insurance with Qantas and you have already paid your yearly premiums upfront earlier in the year then it is simply impossible to earn points in the same category. Similarly, it will be difficult to earn points in the hotel category as I have already booked all my accommodation for my upcoming trips.

I read that line to mean that this offer isn't only for 'new earners' in a category. If you are already earning points at BP for example you'll be eligible to earn the 10 status credits for that category as long as you register for this promotion.

But I agree that 1000 points is a big ask across several of these categories within a three month period. Yes it can be done, and yes Qantas is certainly trying to 'gamify' this a bit by having people track their progress and then spend in other areas of a category to get those 1000 points, but it's not quite about earning 1000 points through 'everyday spending' with some of those categories.

Yeah, it's not great wording.

I take it to mean that for me, who's already with Red Energy and earn around 5000 QFF poer month for paying my Red Electricity Bill..  that i WILL get the 20 Status Credits for this offer.

But where I am also with QF Health Insurance, and earn only 256 points per month, that I will NOT earn in that category from this spend, because not enough time to accrue 1000 points.

But I WILL earn 10 SC from my regular purchases at Woollies, where I already convert EDR into QFF, and earn usually a couple of 1K of QFF per month from regular Woollies shopping.

A real mixed bag.  something for everyone.  and nothing for some people in some categories (?)

Similarly, earning in the entertainment category seems incredibly difficult unless taking a few groups of people to the movies…

"Similarly, it will be difficult to earn points in the hotel category as I have already booked all my accommodation for my upcoming trips."

I think QANTAS Hotels points land after you have actually stayed at the hotel don't they. So, if you're staying in October November or December and you get 1,000 points from those stays (after you've registered) then I think you'd get the SCs
