Hawaiian Airlines ends Virgin Australia partnership

Hawaiian Airlines will end its partnership with Virgin Australia and Virgin’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program on 1 July, 2025.

The move comes in the lead-up to Hawaiian Airlines joining the Oneworld alliance, which is expected in 2026, and Hawaiian opening Qantas Points bookings for Classic Reward seats from 1 October – with scope for a codeshare partnership which would not only unlock but maximise Qantas Points and status credits earning.

Hawaiian Airlines stresses that “there will be no impact to existing (Velocity) bookings and associated benefits for flights departing on or before 30 June 2025,” but after 30 June, that all changes.

Velocity members will no longer earn Velocity Points or Status Credits when flying on Hawaiian Airlines after 30 June 2025.

The final date for using Velocity Points to book reward seats on Hawaiian Airlines will be 30 June 2025, although that covers travel up until 28 February 2026.

Changes to current Velocity Points bookings will also be will be permitted up until 28 February 2026 (subject to availability, with all travel to be completed by that date).

If you need to claim any missing Velocity Points from an eligible Hawaiian Airlines flight taken on or before 30 June 2025, you’ll need to make that retrospective claim through the Velocity Frequent Flyer website no later than 31 December 2025.

Hawaiian Airlines’ Oneworld membership follows the carrier being taken over by Alaska Airlines – which joined Oneworld in early 2021 – in a US$1.9bn buyout.

Oneworld will also welcome Fiji Airways as a full member in the second quarter of this year, with Oman Air following on 30 June, and Taiwan’s Starlux has also been tipped as a future Oneworld member.

Don't worry all, Qatar will buy 25% of Alaskan Airlines which merged with Hawaiian Airlines in the next year or two with Jayne pushing the envelope as far as possible. Remember Jayne was/is a board member of Hawaiian Airlines. That will give Qatar a global business plan.
