Qatar Airways boosts Adelaide, Auckland to daily flights

Qatar Airways is boosting its flights to Adelaide and Auckland to a daily schedule, up from the current five days a week.

The move will not only add convenience when travellers from the City of Churches plan their holidays, it will make it even easier to nip across the Tasman to Auckland.

And no matter which direction you’re going in, the Boeing 777’s business class Qsuites – spacious, well-appointed cribs with sliding doors for privacy – mean you can do it in style.

Qatar Airways now offers the best business class across the Tasman.

The daily flights kick in from January 22, 2023 with the following timetable now showing on the Qatar Airways website:

  • QR914 departs Doha at 8.30pm, arriving into Adelaide at 5.50pm the following day; at 6.35pm it’s wheels-up again and bound for Auckland, where it lands at 1.15am the next day.
  • QR915 starts its journey at Auckland, departing at 6.25pm to reach Adelaide at 8.50pm; at 10.20pm the Boeing 777 sets off on the 13½ trek to Doha, with an arrival time of 4.30am the next day.

In Auckland, travellers are spoiled for choice with a stellar array of luxury hotels, intriguing neighbourhoods to explore – Ponsonby, Grey Lynn and Britomart, to name a few – and a fascinating mix of museums that shine a light on New Zealand’s past and present.

Qatar Airway’s sole competitor on the Adelaide-Auckland route is Air New Zealand, which flies an all-economy Airbus A321neo on the 4-hour hop across the Pond.

The Oneworld member and Virgin Australia partner switched its marathon non-stop flight from Doha to Auckland to detour via Brisbane from August 2020, before adding that Australia-Auckland leg onto its Doha-Adelaide service.

With Qatar Airways now using the same Avios frequent flyer ‘rewards currency' as British Airways, among others, this is also an excellent time for first-time Qatar Airways flyers to join the carrier’s Privilege Club loyalty program and make the most of their Avios.

Great to hear.

I believe QR are using the VA lounge these days given their tie up and codeshares?

For purely selfish reasons I wish QR still used the Adelaide Qantas Club as their dedicated lounge as it would mean it remains open till 10pm(ish) every night meaning on arrival access well into the evenings for us QF platinums and above (on completely unrelated inbound flights).

Can't imagine an Auckland arrival time of 1:15 a.m. would be very popular.  I recall a few years back Qantas offered an Adelaide-Auckland direct flight, with arrival time also in the small hours.  It was cancelled a few months later due to lack of passenger support.

A majority of the PM departures from the East Coast to NZ arrive between 11pm & 1am so it’s quite standard.
