Virgin Australia to restart Doha flights next month

Virgin Australia says its daily flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Doha will once again take off from Monday June 15, as partner Qatar Airways continues to rebuild its Australian network.

These Virgin flights – which take place on Boeing 777s supplied by Qatar Airways and flown by QR crew – launched in the second half of 2025, but were halted in late February 2026 due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

However, its Brisbane–Doha and Perth–Doha flights remain suspended until September 14, with no word on when they will resume.

As previously reported, Qatar Airways will return to Brisbane on May 16, followed by Adelaide on June 16.

Virgin Australia says it’s directly contacting travellers impacted by these changes with the offer of booking on “alternative services”, swapping the flight for a travel credit or a full refund.

“Guests with bookings made before 30 April 2026 for departures up to 15 September 2026 can change their flights to another travel date before 31 October 2026 with the change fee waived (fare difference may apply).”

Another option for the cautious traveller is to cancel their current booking “and retain the value of their ticket as a travel credit for use before 31 March 2027.”

At the time of writing, the Australian Government’s Smartraveller website still has a ‘Do not travel’ advisory, even for transits and layovers and suggests would-be flyers “check your travel insurance policy for coverage of flight delays, cancellations and changes to travel advice levels.”
