Now you can earn frequent flyer miles on a private jet

To the long list of upsides when flying in a private jet – little things like convenience, exclusivity, luxury – you can now add 'pocketing 20,000 frequent flyer miles'.

That's the going rate from ANA when you book a charter flights through its Business Jet arm from April 1, 2019.

The Star Alliance member airline will tip 20,000 miles into the account of its ANA Mileage Club members for a charter flight between Japan and any international destination.

If you're simply using a private jet to connect with an international ANA flight, the haul will be a somewhat more modest 10,000 miles.

ANA Business Jet – created through a partnership between ANA and Tokyo-based conglomerate Sojitz Corporation – is intended to ease the lot of Japanese executives hopping on and off ANA's scheduled services between Japan, North America and Europe.

For example, ANA has double daily services between Tokyo and Chicago and three daily flights between Tokyo and Los Angeles, with connecting charter flights available at Chicago and LAX to whisk time-pressured travellers onwards to other stateside destinations.

Concierge services such as ground transportation, hotel and restaurant bookings are also available as part of the five-star treatment.

“We aim to make business travel more valuable and flexible by maximising rewards and allowing passengers to get the most out of their time,” explains ANA Business Jet CEO Jun Katagiri.

“We believe that introducing this mileage accrual scheme will add value and provide incentives to business travellers, encouraging them to explore the use of business jets as a new travel option.”

Lufthansa also does this with Lufthansa Private Jet. NetJets is their partner and this can be used independendently of a Lufthansa flight, or as a connecting service. Europe, the US and Asia are covered.

Each flight awards 10,000 Award, Status and HON Circle miles. Status bonuses stack too, so Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON members get an extra 25%.

20000 miles isn’t bad. It’s comparable to taking first class I guess.
