Qantas is bolstering its 'fly in, fly out' fleet with 12 new aircraft this year as the airline seeks to ride the resources wave in regional Australia.
According to a report in The Australian, the WA-based and Qantas-owned Network Aviation will more than double the size of its fleet this year by adding 10 new Fokker 100 jets, the first of which is already in service.
The Fokker 100 will be the workhorse of fly-in fly-out operations for resource companies transporting staff to and from mining operations, and will be complemented by an additional two Boeing 717s on top of the 11 already in the QantasLink fleet.
Qantas "may also consider committing bigger A320 or 737 size aircraft to fly-in, fly-out work if there is sufficient demand", reports The Australian.
