Qantas Frequent Flyer members will once again be able to earn Qantas Points on restaurant reservations with the Roo revamping its Qantas Restaurants scheme with a new global partner, Quandoo.
Launching August 15 and covering 18,000 restaurants across 12 countries, booking a table will provide 100 Qantas Points per person per booking, whether enjoying a meal at an upscale or even Michelin-starred restaurant, or somewhere more casual for a quick bite.
That's the same earn rate as through Qantas' previous restaurant partnership with Dimmi, but on a much broader scale, being the first time Qantas Points have been offered on restaurant bookings outside of Australia.
To earn points, reservations must be made through the Qantas Restaurants website or the Qantas mobile app. Any bookings made directly with the restaurant, via credit card or hotel concierge services or directly on other booking websites are ineligible.
"Food and wine constantly rank as some of the top interests for our members," said Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth.
"The ability to now earn points for booking restaurants overseas is a great addition to people’s travel experience and helps get them closer to their dream trip."
Earning points when you 'wine and dine' has been a somewhat bumpy road for Qantas Loyalty, which initially awarded Qantas Points based on dollars spent at participating restaurants, before scrapping that and awarding a fixed number of Qantas Points per diner instead, when booked online.
That scheme was shuttered in January 2019, while a separate partnership with The Rockpool Dining Group will come to an end on Friday August 16, which allowed members to earn and spend Qantas Points at the Group's restaurants.
Rival Virgin Australia also recently ended its tie-up with online restaurant reservation website OpenTable, through which Velocity members could earn 300 points per booking, regardless of the number of diners.
