Qantas flights face disruption as pilots vote to strike

In brief: Qantas flights could face disruption following a vote by pilots to take industrial action, which could extend to strikes that would effectively ground many international services.

94 per cent of eligible members of The Australian and International Pilots Association voted in support of industrial action following months of discord over pay and conditions.

A strike by pilots remains one of the options now available to the union, although the AIPA must give Qantas three days' notice of any industrial action.

Qantas engineers called off their own planned industrial action last week following the  grounding of Tiger Airways.

The Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA) cancelled the rolling stoppages due to hit Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Darwin airports, citing the impact on Qantas as customers booked on the grounded low-cost carrier rush to make alternative travel arrangements.

My money says its not going to happen. If they were serious they would have done it by now.. I keep seeing threats of industrial action and nothing has eventuated. I think Qantas have a pretty good hold on them. so it seems.

Its only 6 days away, qantas has been in talks with both unions, but they have kept arguing, nothing is working, so that has led up to this, which i think is good, it'll make it a better airline, possibly, but what is really funny, is qantas is having all these dramas, virgin is flying high, if john borghetti got the top job, i can tell you now, qantas would be a great airline.
