Singapore Airlines to revamp Changi Terminal 2 lounges

Travelling through Singapore's Changi Airport and heading to the Terminal 2 Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge? Be prepared for some disruption: the lounge is being renovated from next month, and Star Alliance Gold frequent flyers may not like the end result.

The lounge will be renovated in stages to try to reduce the inconvenience.

Stage 1 involves the First Class section of the lounge turning into an all-comers lounge for premium cabin passengers. At this point the Business Class section will undergo renovation, with part of it turning into a KrisFlyer Gold Lounge.

The addition of a KrisFlyer Gold Lounge is important -- where these are provided, Star Alliance Gold members from other airlines' programs are funneled into the Gold Lounge, leaving the SilverKris lounge for Singapore's own passengers and frequent flyers.

SilverKris lounges generally have better facilities, are more spacious and come with a better class of beverage.

Terminal 2's new SilverKris lounge facilities will have full Wi-Fi access, plus Internet-enabled computers. The usual showers, buffet food, newspapers and magazines will also be available.

If the new lounge is anything like the Terminal 3 lounge, expect a dark -- even opulent -- escape from the bright lights of Changi.
