From the Velocity homepage, if you hover over Status in the top bar, select Earning Status Credits.  Scroll down this page and you'll see Virgin Atlantic is listed under the partner airlines section at the bottom of the page.

While the QF12 flight number continues through from JFK to SYD, the JFK to LAX sector is operated by a B747 and the LAX to SYD sector is operated by an A380.
