So you clock Qantas Lifetime Gold, do you keep going for Platinum in QFF or divert crediting to another program?

I'm soon to turn over those 14K in lifetime status credits, and receive my QFF Lifetime Gold card. For those who have already passed this milestone, I'm interested in what you did next. Did you keep credited to QFF for Platinum Requalification or did you start crediting to AAdvantage or another scheme for more mileage on redemptions or even to obtain another lifetime status?

I looked into options a couple of year ago when I got LG but decided to stay with QF based on my platinum status which I find quite easy to maintain with my current travel for business although I can't ever see myself goint to P1. I enjoy the First lounges that are on my well-trodden travel paths, particularly Melb and CX Lounges in HK. CX would be my next best option for points. As others have mentioned, where you travel/class of travel should be in your decision mix. If Lifetime Platinum was on offer I would personally go for that.

Yes, I'm in the same boat. Best number of status credits in any year was just a little shy of 3K - I can't see me hitting P1 based on that, and to be honest there's not much on offer as a P1 to make going out of my way for it either.

It all depends on what your travel patterns are.  I get to the US a bit and always used AA (because of OW Emerald status). These days I tend to use Delta (US domestic) and flash the VA Platinum (which I originally got a few years back as a status match). I have found the Delta lounges to be, relatively, a little better than the AA ones. I continue to be astonished that there is no progression from Lifetime Gold with QF. I am not sure they are in a frame of mind to learn but once you taste the fruit from another garden AND you dont feel there is any incentive for further loyalty, you become a bit of a tart.

QF appear to think that P1 is the progression from LG & P.  I would think there are a lot of LGs that can't see themselves getting to P1; personally I don't wish to do that much flying!    I am in a situation where my travel has reduced, so won't make it to P this year, already LG, so absolutely no benefit from QF status credits.  What are the merits of building status with other OW carriers ?

Interesting topic / question. I also have the same dilemma (i.e. already achieved QF LG and not sure about my ability to maintain platinum with QF in future years). I travel more to Asia and Europe. My current thoughts are to utilise CX more often (Asia/Europe) or try Qatar to Europe (even though for both, under QF's current status rules, I will be getting a fraction of status and FF points entitlements). I am also attracted to the idea of using Eithad to Europe when they start using their A380 to Sydney (their new A380 products look great) or SQ to Asia and Europe. In any case most of these airlines tend to offer more competitive fares (esp in J) than QF.

All depends really. I've LTG myself and still credit to Qantas, but I do so because I know that my travel patterns these days won't get me to platinum (or even Qantas gold) and likewise won't get me to gold equivlent on anyone elses program, so I may as well credit it to Qantas, enjoy the benifits of LTG and put in for the occasional upgrade with the points I've earnt.

With my travel patterns and the amount of points I earn thanks to Gold, it seems the points I earn are enough to put in for an upgrade about every 3 sectors.

Thanks everyone for your input. It's good to know what others have done before me.
