Whats the reason behind not being able to earn status credits on EK? Not having a rant or anything but its just a bit frustrating that both QF and EK boast about this strategic alliance they have but when you want to earn SC's it has to be on a QF flight #. I can even earn QF SC on CX at a slightly lower earn rate but if I book an emirates flight I can't- even though they have this strong tie with Qantas........ Thoughts? Happy Monday everyone!

I guess maybe because EK doesn't want you to build your FF over with QF while leveraging EK's own metal, they want you to stick to one side, which is EK in this case and want you to build your FF with them not Qantas.

Allowing QFFers to earn Status Credits on EK codes would mean to break the prime directive of the oneworld framework. You may cavort as you will but never allow status earning on a non-oneworld airline's code. It's like having a mistress but never to take them out as your plus one at a state function.

I need to add a caveat. I've been led to believe that Top Bonus members can earn status whilst flying Etihad codes. This seems to fly in the face of oneworld conventions.

Can Skyward members earn SC if and when they fly QFd?

Maybe its reciprocal.

Most likely though, its written like this in the QF/EK agreement setting up the tie prior to 2013.

Skywards members do earn tier miles on QFd, but only if it is at the start or end of an international journey.

I don't think Skywards members can get reward or tier miles when flying on any QFd flight, unlike the arrangement SQ have with VA.

Qantas gets paid putting customers onto EK services. The only benefit of booking with QF is to possibly obtain a QF codeshare service. If customers were also getting QF status on EK, they may just book directly with EK in the future - hence cutting QF out and reducing a revenue stream.

You get status on CX due to oneworld.

EK does not even give a damn what you feel or what Qantas wants. In this so-called "partnership" they simply use Qantas marketing department to pinch lots of flights from One Word alliance. YMMV of course.
