Just saw a B787 operating the NZ125/126 rotation to Auckland tonight. Does anyone know when this started? I never saw announcing this like their other routes etc. Is it a permanent aircraft swap from the 777/767?

They regularly use the 787 to Sydney, also.  Has been happening for some time.

With the 767's being fully retired over the next 6-12 months, you'll see more of the 787 replacing those routes/flights.

Just the good old fleet rotation tactic of using longhaul widebodies to provide extra lift on shorthaul trunks @ peak periods in between their daily intercon arrival vs departure schedules.

789 on 125/126 seems to be pretty permanent now, with 777s still on 123/124.

I'm lucky, flew into MEL on 125 in July on the 76 after winning a bid upgrade, booked to go back next week and glad they've rolled it to the 789. Made the mistake of booking through Virgin though, now I can't bid for an upgrade haha
