I've got to get from LHR to GLA (or EDI) and I want to maximise my VA status earn using a partner airline. I'm VA Plat, but so far can only find BA flights on that route. Is this going to be the one occasion when I'll have to earn QF status (I'm on the bottom tier) or can anyone suggest otherwise? Thanks!

Unless you want to fly EY LHR/AUH/GLA? Points junkies have been known to do worse...

Sorry LHR/AUH/EDI; EY does not fly to GLA.

Unfortunately for you, Virgin Atlantic (Little Red) no longer fly the domestic routes.  BA have monopoly unless you're prepared to fly Ryanair or EasyJet from other LON airports.

It is possible to earn Virgin Atlantic miles by taking Virgin Trains, they operate London Euston to Glasgow and London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Don't think you'll manage to collect any status for Virgin Australia I'm afraid.

If flying via AUH isn't crazy enough, you could also fly LHR - JFK - EDI, as Delta have a seasonal service to Edinburgh, and I believe they are also starting JFK - GLA next summer.

If you do end up having to fly, why not take out a Miles&Bonus account from Aegean. They're a OneWorld carrier with much lower status tiers than most.

I think you mean Star Alliance.
