Anyone recently flown CX105 - it departures from HKG to MEL just after midnight? Question is - how "heavy" they feed business passengers? I think that I may be far better to eat in lounge and skip meal on board altogether and have more rest - is this would be correct? Thanks.

Quite right, the food in the lounge, particularly the F lounge but also J, is good, fresh and much better than in the air.

Perhaps a digestif on the plane before a good snooze.

If you prefer to dine on board the food is good but you wont see it before 01:30 am!

Took this flight a few months ago - there's a reasonable dinner and then breakfast offering if you choose to dine, although being an overnight flight, I instead opted to eat dinner in the new Pier First lounge and head straight to sleep after take-off, with the crew waking me about 10 minutes before the seat belt sign came on for landing with a latte and a warmed croissant to start the day after about 8hrs of sleep.

Had a connecting flight afterwards so ate a more substantial breakfast/lunch in the Qantas lounge after arriving in Melbourne.

Serg: you're bang on the money with the idea to eat dinner in the lounge and sleep on the flight.

The dinner on those midnight flights out of HKG is pretty much a 'standard' dinner, if I recall, rather than a light supper.
So you can enjoy a much better meal (with far greater variety of course( at the lounge, especially if you're at The Pier. And happily, the Hong Kong Airport website shows that over the past two days CX105 has departed from gates 69 & 71 so that's at The Pier end of the terminal. :)

That is what I always do on that flight, eat in the lounge then get a good 8h sleep, with breakfast just before landing. Tell the crew as you board that you're skipping the supper service and want to order breakfast before you sleep. You've got to ask for the menu as the crew don't hand out menus until well after take off. I prefer to get that done early so I can use the G-force at take off to help me sleep.

The supper service is a full blown meal. CX breakfast is a bit limited though and always seems to include breakfast meat (sausage, bacon etc) options, dim sums or congee, all of which I do not enjoy for breakfast. So I tell them to save me some cheese from the supper service. I get the tray with yoghurt/Bircher muesli, the cheese plate and some rolls, which works fine for me. Of course a couple rounds of espresso. Served an hour before landing, I get all the attention from the crew as everyone has had their meal. Cathay, a great way to fly :p
