Has anyone recently upgraded flights with Virgin Oz from Economy or PE to Abu Dhabi.

Has anyone recently upgraded flights with Virgin Oz from Economy or PE to Abu Dhabi. I am aware you can only do it a week before your flight but was wondering if anyone had any luck/comments about the process? Also, I was informed by the helpful Virgin call centre that I would only be able to upgrade(potentially) the VA leg of the flight, anyone know why the concept of the earning and burning of FF points with partner airlines does not extend to upgrading with Etihad? Thanks

If you're asking why you can't upgrade to Premium Economy on the Etihad leg of the journey, I believe it may stem from the fact that Etihad does not have Premium Economy.

I'll ask again: Has anyone recently upgraded from Economy OR PE to Business Class? I am not wondering why you cant upgrade to PE on Etihad as watson374 kindly stated there is no PE. I want to know why you can only upgrade the VA section of the flight. According to Virgin you cannot upgrade at all on the Etihad sections of the flights. Any one had any experience with this? Spot on, Etihad are a three class layout; F, J, and Y, no Y+ available.

I've never been upgraded on Virgin Australia before but when I did it on United, I purchased a flexible economy ticket instead of the discounted ones and I had just moved up a tier on MileagePlus. On Virgin, I think they're more likely to move you up if the economy section is full. Good luck!

Same with Qantas you can use your points to upgrade but only only Qantas operated services not partner airlines
