Qantas - QF 128 SYD to HK - I flew premium economy last month and I realised the refreshment meal was exactly the same as offered as business class (same flight done a few weeks prior). I was quite surprised. Is this standard practice.

QF 128 - HK to SYD last week on business ... The pre order breakfast selection card was missing ? After I read the Menu, i realised Qantas removed the breakfast selection option and provided fruit and/or ham and cheese croissant as a cafe breakfast. Has others noticed? When I'd asked the CSM she stated the breakfast provided more sleeping time. My view is that the passengers should have the choice between a big brekky or no brekky. I find this very poor.

The food with qantas is going down hill compared to the likes of a Cathay.

To answer your question. Qantas announced a couple of months ago that an express meal service would now be offered to allow extra sleep rather than a room service style breakfast menu. I agree with you that this 'enhancement' along with all the other 'enhancements' subtracts the service offered rather than adds to it. Business pax who pay more than double a fare of premium economy need to be offered a far greater variety of breakfast on Asia to Australia services if they are prepared to forgo sleep.

Since launch the Qantas PE meal/menu has been almost the same as Business minus some touches but with lower wine selections.

OThers (inc BA) used economy meals although understand they have now upgraded this.

agree with 'moa999' with regard to QF PE..with regard to QF JC offering choice of either full shabbang b/f or max sleep no meal..this created alot of food wastage as 100% of full catering would still be required 'on the off chance' that 100% of pax would ask for it..whether or not you choose to believe me, QF monitored passenger requirements for breakfast and asked passengers who ON THE MAJORITY chose max sleep/min food.. of course this wont please everyone but was instigated to reduce ALOT of food wastage on these and similar ASIA/AUST flights..it's all done on a cost/benefit scale..I'M FULLY AWARE I'LL GET BAGGED FOR SAYING THAT....PLEASE DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER!   (as a side note..doesnt CATHY use 'heat everything together / at once' doggy' dishes (similar to QF PE main meal dishes)..  for their main JC meals??

The airline is normally known as Cathay! And NO they do not "Heat everything together/at once" as you state, majorly unimformed.

Thank you for your post 'undertheradar'. I will not shoot the messenger - its good to get some facts on why services get changed from time-to-time. I agree that many passengers might be satisfied with extra sleep and express meal instead on Asia to Australia services, but it becomes extremely difficult to justify Qantas maintaining business fares that are more than double that of premium economy for just a 8 to 10 flight if the offering of food/wine (beverage)/service in premium economy is almost identicle to that of business. In terms of sleeping I would probably on a typical Asia to oz flight get just 3 hrs less sleep if I went PE (from my experience on HK to OZ), but save myself thousands of dollars! As you put it, the cost/benefit scale with this change is tipped in the favour of Qantas and I suppose they need to be savvy where they can and save more money. It's up to us customers to recognize this and determine which airline best suits our purpose for any given flight. Cheers

The BA Y+ (World Traveller Plus) product is probably one of the most basic out there. They only recently upgraded their meal service to include a Club World main dish- aside from this, the food and beverage offering is exactly the same as in Y (World Traveller) which is pretty dire and often inedible. Mind you, BA doesn't charge the same premium as QF for Y+ and the new 777-300 Y+ seats are quite comfy!

Hi All appriciated the comments.... As i need the status credits to reamin at level. I might continue to pay for PE and use points for upgrades. I can't justify paying $5K + for business class.
