As seen in the AusBT article about the A380 refurbishment, it also noted the two remaining A330s will be upgraded to business suites.
Does anyone know what economy product this plane will get? Will it be iPads, Proper IFE screens (like newer -200s) or will it be the new A330-300 product (this is an 'international' aircraft)?
No-one knows as yet. I suspect it will be a different arrangement from the other A332s, as they do need a couple of 332s in international config for the PEK route. (The other refurbed 332s are all in "domestic" config, which does not have sufficient galley space for an extended international sector with two meal services.)
Makes you wonder why they didn't do them originally. Surely a slightly different config to allow for 2 hot meal services as suggested above. And what about crew rest? Do these planes need to have a different crew rest config to allow for the longer sector length?
I think it had been flagged previously that these aircraft had near term lease expiry and were rumoured to be heading to the RAAF - no point refurbing an aircraft that will leave. Qantas have obviously negotiated an extension.
Believe the PEK flights require the crew rest, hence it is only flown by EBG/EBL or the 333s. The tech crew rest is already fitted in EBG/EBL - directly behind the pilots hence no forward galley on the above aircraft. I'd expect this to remain and for Qantas to reduce the economy area to fit in a mid-cabin galley and additional toilet. Possibly for a 28/227 config.
Where does it say the two A330-200s with the old 2x2x2 config in J are to be upgraded? I haven't seen any announcement from QF about that, although it would be good as I have to fly to SIN on one of these
