Is it possible to use my QF FF points for flights on CX?  I want to use them for a trip to Europe ex-Aus, but via HK...

Do I do it through the QF site?

You can use QFF points to book outright classic reward seats on any OneWorld airline or on Emirates, but they can only be used for upgrades on flights that are both QF marketed and QF operated.

Note you'd need to have Gold or above status or to be flying at least Business to have lounge access for the CX flights.

You'd need to login to your QFF account to search for classic reward seats. It helps to be flexible, to be willing to travel outside peak times and to be ready to book soon after the seats are released.

There's an option on the QF website when looking for flights to search for "Classic Flight Rewards". You need to check that option.

Also be careful. Sometimes there's an (i) button next to the price. This can mean that e.g. your flight Melbourne to Sydney is in Business, but your flights from Sydney to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to London are in Economy. They don't charge any less for this than all legs being in Business. If you want to fly Business make sure all the legs are Business.

I have booked CX flights with points via the QF website but not all the way through to EU. you may have to phone for that but worth a check. Good luck

Yes, but only as an outright redemption for a partner award (i.e. slightly higher points cost, no ability to use points to upgrade a revenue fare, etc.).

CX award flights are released earlier than QF flights, so if you search with date flexible on the latest date that QF allows (for today that is 27/8/18), then CX flights for about a week later come up.

CX awards do have a higher Qantas points value, however this is offset by significantly lower taxes, fees and surcharges that are applied to each award ticket when compared to a Qantas, BA or Emirates flight.

That use to be so, but now the points cost is prorated.

From the T&Cs:

14.4.3 Where mixed-class travel is booked on a Trip, the Points required for that Trip will be calculated using the lowest quoted Points level of either:

(a) the Points level for the highest class of travel flown on that Trip; or
(b) the sum of Points, breaking the Trip into multiple Trips wherever the class of travel changes between sectors within a Trip.
