Hey guys,
I'm flying soon to NZ, (on the way back from Wellington to Auckland, then onwards to Melbourne) and I have a long layover in Auckland (about 8 hrs). Just thinking, does anyone know when the EK lounge in Auckland open? I'm trying to toss my options of things to do prior check in and lounges opening. I have recently been to Auckland so not very keen to taking the bus to the CBD.

Any suggestions more than welcome :)
TIA.

The norm is 3 hours before first EK flight.

Eight hours, in my experience, is enough to bus into the center of Auckland and either go for a long walk or catch, more interesting, a ferry to somewhere more open.

That said, with the cost of the baggage storage and the bus, the next time I’m considering just hiring a car and driving somewhere I would like to see and walk in.

I am with you – 8 hrs in the Auckland lounges is not something I would like to do again. Yes, Emirates only opens a few hours before the flight. The Oneworld QF first is not a super luxury lounge and quite small but generally uncrowded.

I'm not sure you'll get into the EK lounge, but you might be able to buy access to the Emperor lounge. I used to use that before i got my Koru access.

It's the old EK lounge, and is pretty decent.

Alternately, the hotel right out the door from the International Terminal (I want to say Novotel, but i'm probably wrong), does Day-Rates for layovers as well. I've made use of that in the past for when I was in NZ for a meeting, with a 13 hour turnaround (in at 0530, out at 1845)

It is the Novotel... That's not a bad idea, may give that a try. Thanks!
I have done the EK lounge in August and was alright for a good meal and drinks, but wouldn't rush too much to go there all day... QF lounge looks like it's not even worthwhile considering going in for 5 minutes (I'm QF gold, flying J on EK).
