Hi All,

I'm flying from Melbourne to New York via LA. I have a 2-3hour stopover at LAX Terminal B.

As I understand Qantas passes will not work at any of the lounges there. Are there any passes I can purchase to gain access to any lounge from any other carrier or provider? happy to pay for it.

Thanks

I should also mention, I 'm about to sign up to the Westpac altitude black cards, I don't know if that will help at all via Amex?

westpac altitude black cards give 2 free qantas club or priority passes a year. so if you sign up to it you'd get 2 free priority passes and you could then use these to access the mediocre Korean Air lounge in TBT or the Alaska lounge in T6 at LAX

Thanks freshthoughts, I'll try that - I did see some comments about getting the 2x Q club AND 2x Priority Passes on the westpac card page on AusBT. I'll look into the Korean Air and Alaska lounges. Cheers

keep in mind that both lounges have a policy of being able to turn away priority pass customer for overcrowding which by what I've read isn't uncommon

It's not 2 Qantas + 2 Priority Pass, it's one or the other. The card also includes two yearly visits to the AMEX lounge in Sydney for a total of four visits (2x AMEX + either 2x Qantas or 2x Priority Pass). Also note that if you take the Qantas route, the Qantas passes aren't valid for entry to the Qantas/Oneworld lounge at LAX.

Thanks, Chris! That's clear. I'm new to points and programs so I'll make best out of the options available in LAX.

Though not advertised, for what it's worth, I got the WP Black (Qantas) earlier in the year and therefore 2x Qantas passes with first QF purchase, but later gave PP a go as well via the Westpac website - successfully received and used 2 x PP passes, for a total of 6 lounge visits (including the 2x Amex as well). Handy loophole for anyone who's signed up :)

I assume you are connecting to QF11?

In a lot of cases, no one has time to visit lounges at LAX while in transit to JFK. You have to clear immigration, pick up your bags, go through customs, drop the bags again and reclear security before proceeding back to the boarding gate.

I now live in NYC and take QF93/94 and QF11/12 very regularly and almost never have any spare time even if in business class.

was just about to write exactly as nmalon advises.

Have done this connection a number of times and it has been pretty tight every time bar once (when pilot became ill and it took time to rustle a replacement).

Yes, connecting to QF11. I'll take your advice and give up on the Lounge idea. It's likely I'll take QF12 out from JFK, Is there a Qantas lounge at JFK you recommend?

Might be worth doing some research on the lounges available in the terminals you’re using and check your eligibility.

Qantas operates out of Terminal 7 at JFK. There is only one lounge option - the British Airways Galleries lounge. Qantas and all other airlines operating out of this terminal utilise this lounge. The lounge is nothing spectacular.

Qantas club single entry passes do not work at this lounge and the lounge does not accept PriorityPass. Only way you are getting through the door is by either flying in business, first, having oneworld sapphire/emerald (qantas gold, platinum, p1) or actually being a qantas club member.

If you chose to fly on an Qantas codeshare flight with American Airlines, these flights operate out of Terminal 8. There are two Admirals Clubs in the terminal plus a flagship lounge. You can purchase a single entry pass to admirals clubs. Again, these lounges are less than spectacular.
