Hi All,

I've submitted 4 x upgrade me bids for MEL - HKG (2 of us , each way) . In your experience, how long prior to the flight were you notified of your success? I understand virgin say between 5 days and up to 2 hours prior to though I'm curious. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dennis,

May I ask what fare that you booked so you were able to receive the Premium bid? Was it Elevate or Freedom?

Hey CityRail!

Elevate fares though I'm Platinum (if that helps in your answer at all)

I've only used it domestically, always 48- 24 hrs before. Usually I see the money gone from my CC before I get the Success email. I have about a 90% success rate getting the upgrades. Always bid very close to the minimum. I am Gold so I figure they're better off giving me the seat, than someone who wouldn't get lounge access anyway.

Thank you Dennis! This helps (It seems that I might be able to get some upgrades to business for my next trip to Hong Kong then)

May I ask how much is the minimum bid for the upgrade?

Hey CityRail

$520 per person - each way. That is the minimum . I went a little higher than that as I got the fares at a really good price. This is the first time I've used the feature as I burnt a large amount of points for another trip. Good luck. I'll let you know how it goes!

Elevate fares are doing about $900 return.
If you add the minimum bid to business and is successful, the ticket is only about $2000 all up, which is around the same as Premium Economy on SQ/CX.

I think it is a very good deal!

Not worth it unless your flight is over 3 hours.

I was notified 3 days prior, as a Platinum member on a Getaway fare, $10 above the minimum bid.
