I'm keen to know whether you can still earn VA status credits on SQ flights when you book an SQ flight and then use miles to upgrade to a higher class cabin? I'm aware that previously when i booked SQ flights and paid using SQ miles, that I wasn't legible for VA SCs.... Is upgrades the same deal or would I still qualify as long as the base fare was bought using non-SQ reward points?

If the base fare was a revenue fair, You will earn status credits based on your original fare bucket.

It may be a glitch and I hope it works for you as well, when I was called by SQ to check if I wanted to upgrade to J for 999$ I was given full business SC for Virgin Australia... 120SC vs 20 I was initially to earn

Thanks - That is, as long as I'm paying for the base fare - I should get VA SCs. If I choose to upgrade- its a cabin upgrade and not a ticket upgrade hence no change to the base fare.

I'm asking because previously, I've paid the base fare using points and couldn't get VA SCs - instead, I got Kris Flyer instead.

If you pay for the base fare and redeem KF miles for cabin upgrade, you will get Velocity points and SCs of the base fare.
