Hi,

I work for a company that uses SAP concur for travel bookings and it has been set up so we have no choice in fare class. There is no discretion on this and we are not allowed to book elsewhere. As a result often the fares we get are not upgradable . Now I am a QFF Gold member and have more points than I can use. Is there anyway to upgrade a non-upgradable fare? If I request an upgrade on check-in or at the lounge, is it treated any differently?

Thanks.

On rare occasions QF may do promotions allowing for upgrade requests to be made for normally non-upgradable fares. However where your employer books your fares taking advantage of such a promo would be difficult.

Book upgradable fares or if you can’t or won’t be content to know you’re going to fly economy.

Have a holiday and use the points or ask you employer if your seniority in the company could be a reason for them to allow you upgradable flights.

I am flying business return Sydney to London at the end of May on Emirates, though I booked and paid thru the Qantas site. I went onto the Qantas site and tried to request an upgrade to First thru the manage bookings tab but it came up as non upgradeable. Is this standard? Or do I need to try and do it thru the Emirates site? I am a Platinum QFF and have enough points.

Unfortunately, you can't upgrade Emirates-operated flights with Qantas points, regardless of whether you booked it through the Qantas website or not.

This one is easy - once you get your tickets booked through your employer travel arranger (SAP concur). Give Qantas a call before 23:59 of the same day of original purchase and ask them to please change the fare class of your ticket for an additional charge that can be paid by you. You are entitled to make any changes to a booking before day’s end.

I used to have the same issue and this worked whenever I wanted to add flexibility or the upgrade potential.

Cheers. It's interesting, I'm certain I flew the same trip in 2014 in Emirates First after buying a Business class ticket on the Qantas site and upgraded using my Qantas points. But that was a while ago now, and I guess they've changed the arrangement. It's the only time I've flown in Emirates First (it was great) and I wouldn't have paid cash for it.

You may have been op’d up by EK, as the EK-QF arrangement has never allowed one to use QFF points to upgrade on EK.

Either Europe or the US.
