I'm travelling business class to Melbourne from Hong Kong in July with Qantas. Obviously I get lounge access. At around the same time my partner is travelling to Bangkok on Cathay in economy. Anyone know of a way where He could join me in a lounge for this journey?
In that case, you probably won't be able to get access for your partner.
According to oneworld rules, only Emerald, Sapphire and First Class passengers are able to bring a guest also travelling on a oneworld operated and marketed flight into lounges. There is no guesting for Business Class passengers.
Oneworld airlines are allowed to adopt more generous policies than what's 'required' of them: in this case, specific to the Qantas lounge only, Qantas business class passengers are permitted one complimentary guest (no status required), but that guest has to be travelling on the same flight.
It never hurts to ask, but with the guest not travelling on the same flight as you, it'll be 'computer says no'.
Use your silver passes or those attached to any CC to gain access for him (assuming you are looking to just use the qantas lounge not other OW lounges)

Hi, I have a similar problem for a big family trip, booked with points. I could only get Mrs 11 into Premium Econ for our very last flight (daughter and I in J, my birthday so I claimed it!!). I don't have sufficient OW status either. Here's my solution:
If you set up an Asia Miles Account (free) and also pay to join the Marco Polo Club (US$100) you can earn 9,000 Asia Miles (AM) via credit card spend and use it to buy your partner a pass. Two card possibilities: (Low cost but higher spend rqd) The HSBC Platinum Card (higher cost lower spend option) earns rewards points that can be converted as does the AMEX Platinum Edge Credit Card Both convert at 2 Rewards Points : 1 AM. The HSBC cards has a refundable fee ($129) should you spend $6k on it each year, but only earns at 1pt/$1 so you'd need to spend $18k. The AMEX doesn't have a refundable fee ($195) but it does have a better earn rate (variable 3pts/$1 on groceries and fuel) meaning you could buy yourself $6.4k of Woolworths Gift Cards (assuming you get them at the widely available 5% discount) and you then have the 18,000 pts sorted as well as having prepaid your groceries and fuel for a while.
Once you've earned the points transfer them to your AM account and get in touch with the Marco Polo club and purchase a pass for your partner. I realise it's a pile to do in a short time but it is a solution.
Oh, the AMEX comes with a $200 travel credit but don't get too excited by it. You have to book your accom through the AMEX site and their rates are inflated.

Just a question: why not bump the daughter to PY so the wife can enjoy J? My parents would never have et me enjoy a premium product over them haha (and I reckon I'd adopt the same idea too).

Primary reason we're on Oneworld Award bookings (the 280k points for J) and for our 1st flight ex PER I could only get two J seats on any one day. So my wife leaves a day before us (in J) and is on a separate booking ref number to my daughter and I. We leave the following day also in J. As there were only two J seats HKG-PER (that will be our 2nd flight that day as they're sending us to PER from SIN via HKG with 12hrs between flights!). So given the choice I pulled rank and said "My B'day, I'm in J." Also our daughter would not be comfortable being on her own. Some seat swapping may eventuate but it won't be me forcing that one!
Oh and I'm not too horrible, I promise. Wife and daughter get J KRK-LHR (we also booked some short one way flights separate to the OW Award) and I'm in Y (only two award J seats available), :-(
Incidentally the HSBC Platinum Visa comes with two Lounge Key passes that can be used at the lounge in KRK that BA use so my Y flight will be sorted for lounge access beforehand!!
Rest of the time we all fly J together. Mostly on the OW award but a few small flights within Europe and the USA that I booked separately.

At the moment none of the HKG-BKK services operated by Cathay have a QF codeshare.
