Hi all.

I'm flying BNE - SIN - EWR shortly on SQ. I'm Platinum with Virgin and Gold with Qantas. Would The Krisflyer Gold Lounge be my only option in Changi or are there better options that I could try (with bathrooms)? From what I can see for Newark, my option would be the Virgin Clubhouse.

Also, any tips on good SIM options mainly for data? I'm covering 10 states in the north east.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, even for VA Platinum the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge is the only option in Singapore.

If you're flying Singapore Airlines return from Brisbane to Newark, you could be eligible for the S$20 'Changi Transit Voucher' which is also accepted as entry to the Ambassador Transit Lounge T2/T3 which should have showers/bathrooms. This would only work for one of your two transits.

For SIM options, StarHub sells a S$32 card which gives 2GB per day for 15 days, which works in many places around the world including Singapore and the USA. You can buy it from UOB counters inside the terminals.

If you're staying for more than 4 weeks or so, the S$50 'Happy Prepaid' SIM option includes 5GB of roaming data for 30 days, and you can then use the remaining S$50 credit to buy data packs to continue your trip.

David69 - Im assuming from your question that you are flying economy or premium economy? If so I’m afraid Brandon is right. The Krisflyer Gold Lounge is desperately underwhelming. Ambassador transit lounge is pretty average too. Depending on how long you’ve got you could head to the Swimming pool in terminal 1. You can get a shower there. You don’t mention how long your transit in Singapore is, but if it’s longer than 4/5 hours then the options of what to do in Singapore on a layover has been discussed on this forum a few times before.

Also not mentioned is that if you're flying SQ back from EWR, you won't have access to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse. The partnership with VA/SQ only lets you into lounges that are actual Singapore Airlines lounges and not partner lounges.

Even though Virgin Atlantic is a VA partner, it doesn't matter if you're flying SQ. If you were flying VX though you would have access.

Most of the VA partnerships are very messy and can be a little confusing.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. Premium economy for this one. We have 3 hours on the way over so we'll probably spend that in the lounge. 7 hours on the way back so we'll head over and check out Jewel.

Oh - so I don't get to try the fancy cocktail bar for breaky drinks? That's a shame but thanks for the heads up.

I would head to the Jewel on your 3 hour transit (it only takes 10 minutes to walk to) and then head into Singapore on your 7 hour transit.

I would work out where to have a shower before you head to Newark. Having been on this flight you want to be as physically and mentally prepared as possible before boarding. There are a couple of options in the jewel for a shower but I have not investigated them.

The best ablutions available to the general travelling public in exchange for hard currency at Changi would have be a swim and shower at the Aerotel in T1 (S$17).

If you do want to grab a drink and bite to eat in the lounge in SIN, the SQ Gold lounge in T2 is far better than the one in T3. Usually quieter and always seems to have better food options.

Unless you really want a non-US SIM I’d just pick up an at&t prepaid one when you arrive. They have a decent network unlike t-mobile who are limited outside the main centers. Plus if you have any issues while traveling there’s a store on every second corner.

I had a great experience with usprepaidsimcards.com. Loads of data to use in Canada and the US for 30 days for $50.
