Have Qantas change their policy? Previously I had successfully claim for Business Fare Qantas Point and Status Credit after bidding upgrade with Malaysia Airlines for a number of times. The recent trip was unsuccessful as the Qantas agent pointed to me that all bid upgrade now only paid base on original booking.
With partners, what gets posted to your account is based on what the airlines tell Qantas - so it depends on how MH processes the upgrade, and what they then tell Qantas. Getting Business SC and Points was basically a bonus.
That's pretty poor if you've paid for it. Contrast Lufthansa, which if you've paid for an upgrade, is happy to give you Miles & More award and status miles at the business rate.

I think a clarification is required here. I am sure if the OP had changed the fare from Economy to Business that the points and SC's would post accordingly, however this method is treated the same way as a points upgrade (and it is the same on QF metal).

You only earn your purchased ticket points and credits. Been like that for as long as I can remember.
