Just read an article online that Jetstar will be starting direct flights to Colombo while Sri Lankan is looking at expanding to SYD as well. Can anyone confirm?
I reckon if Ausbt had this information they would have reported it and unless it's directly from Jetstar or Sri Lankan, anyone else here is not going to be able to "confirm" much.
So the source was the Daily News Sri Lanka who was apparently quoting the Australian High Commissioner.
What isn't very clear is if it'll be 787 flights to SYD/MEL or 3K (Jetstar Asia) services from Singapore. The second is more likely but you never know.
Regarding the direct Sydney flights with Sri Lankan airlines... well ever since they restarted CMB-MEL they've been suggesting Sydney is next.
Almost certainly would be ex-SIN on 3K, on A320 equipment. Can't see a sufficiently large market for a direct flight ex-Australia on a B787.
Agreed, although the timing will be difficult, as it is impossible offer short connections through Singapore to and from Australia in both directions while retaining a short turnaround in Colombo.
A Good move, IMHO. Better & direct connectivity to SL and one stop to MAA. Would be interested to see if the flight times are aligned to one of the three UL services and many other airline services to MAA.
On a completely different note :
It's an interesting thing to fly from MAA to CMB - being a person of Tamil origin, I don't feel that I'm flying overseas when I fly between MAA and CMB :) Most people on-board speak the same language and appreciate similar customs :)

Sydney flights - this will be interesting. I hope they time it better for better connections into India then their current Melbourne flight.
