Hilton is kicking off 2021 with the opportunity to snare Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond status all the way through to 2023 by status matching your tier in a competing hotel loyalty scheme.
Reckon you'll be back on the road or in the air by 2023? We expect so – and having a Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond card tucked away in your wallet will deliver some great perks such as discounted room rates, space-available upgrades, free breakfasts, premium WiFi, executive lounge access and late check-outs.
Here's how to smooth your return to business or leisure travel with the Hilton Honors 2021 status match.
How the Hilton Honors 2021 status match works
The Hilton Honors 2021 status match works in two parts.
First up, eligible and approved applicants will enjoy an instant boost to Hilton Honors Gold for 90 days. This delivers a basic set of benefits such as space-available upgrades, late check-outs and free breakfast (depending on the Hilton property you're staying in).
That 90 day period then encompasses a very modest 'status challenge' component: you'll need to chalk up some stays at any Hilton property to lock away your Hilton Honors status through to March 31, 2023.
- stay five nights and you'll keep Hilton Honors Gold status to March 31, 2023
- stay nine nights and you'll have Hilton Honors Diamond status to March 31, 2023
It really doesn't get much simpler than that! You'd usually have to rack up 20 stays for Hilton Honors Gold or 30 stays for Hilton Honors Diamond, so this promotion represents a serious 'discount' to earning status.
However, note that the 90 day countdown will begin as soon as your application for the Hilton Honors 2021 status match is approved – there's no facility to be approved but delay that 'status challenge' period for a month or two.
This means you'll want to be ready to book those Hilton hotel stays – or have some stays already pencilled in your schedule – before you apply for the Hilton Honors 2021 status match.
Hilton says that processing each application can take 5-7 business days, although this can be pushed out to 10-14 working days if it requires "additional validation" – which is likely to be associated with confirming your status and stays with a competing hotel group.
Who is eligible for the Hilton Honors 2021 status match?
As this promotion kicks with Hilton Honors Gold, a very wide range of hotel loyalty tiers as well as hotel groups can be used to springboard your way to Hilton Gold and then Diamond.
There's just one condition which sets this apart from most status matches: in addition to having suitable status with another hotel loyalty program, you'll need to show proof that you've stayed at least one night in the last 12 months with that hotel chain under your loyalty membership (this is to weed out any 'serial status matchers' who haven't actually stayed anywhere).
Some of the better-known hotel loyalty programs and tiers you can use for the Hilton Honors 2021 status match include:
- Accor ALL Gold, Platinum
- IHG Rewards Club Gold, Platinum, Spire
- Marriott Bonvoy Gold, Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador
- Radisson Rewards Gold, Platinum
- World of Hyatt Explorist, Globalist and Lifetime Globalist
